Salvagers – who are they? Salvaging – what is it about?
Over recent years both British and American television have promoted several Salvagers who clearly are most knowledgeable and successful in explaining the role of the Salvager.
For Salvagers, many being great characters obtain Salvaged material, old building stone cand brick, roofing slates, pine and oak beams and antique iron gates, railings and benches. from a wide range of sources such as demolition sites of old buildings, farms, old barns, tumbledown old factories, even skips. The author and most of the other Salvagers within this book, specialise in Salvaging and running businesses selling Garden Antiques: stunningly beautiful Old York Stone Troughs, historic Millstones, fascinating Old Yorkshire Standing Stones and antique metal work.
And who is the DANDELION Salvager?
Author Alan McEwen has a lifelong passion for heavy Mechanical Engineering and Industrial History, also many years’ experience of working with salvaged materials such as stone, brick, metals and timber. Around twenty years ago, this led to Alan designing his own home, World From Rough Stones House, and constructing it from reclaimed materials. Alan still continues to design and construct other fascinating Salvage projects.
Within the pages of this unique book, profusely illustrated with colour photographs, the author chronicles the fascinating personal stories of ten Salvagers and describes their creative work.
Velociraptors made of reclaimed scrap-yard sourced steel, a pair of unique 17th-century stone heads unearthed during trench excavations on an historic site in Huddersfield, and… an 1882-built Lancashire boiler installed by Alan in the McEwen family’s kitchen! These are just a few examples of the amazing stories captured in The Dandelion Salvager, Salvagers and Salvaging..
